Jazz
Jazz dance incorporates many commercial styles...

This is the commercial style of dance you would see on pop videos, in musical theatre and on television.  We have developed our own syllabus for jazz dancing which is both fun and challenging for all abilities.

Jazz dance classes...

Our jazz classes are grouped by age/ability. Every class begins with a fast and fun warm-up to develop rhythm, coordination and body awareness, and to introduce basic dance steps. The warm-up is followed by a section of stretching exercises to improve flexibility and posture.

Time is spent learning and improving dance steps and new moves, including elements from the ISTD Modern Grades syllabus and popular new styles such as street dance and hip-hop.  Each class prepares a routine for our annual dance display, which may be any commercial style from rock’n’roll to hip-hop or musical theatre to pop. Find a jazz class near you!

Students are always encouraged to audition for local theatre productions, both amateur and professional, to give them greater performance experience.

Optional exams:

Senior students can be entered for the ISTD Jazz Awards – Bronze, Silver and Gold – for which they are graded and receive a medal.  The Awards are not a compulsory part of the class.
