Lower Grades Ballet
Pre-Primary Grade Ballet
Pre-Primary is the first grade in the RAD syllabus for children in Primary 1-2 (age 4-6). A new revised Pre-Primary syllabus was introduced in August 2009 which has a great emphasis on musicality, expression, creativity and fun.
Students are entered for a Presentation Class when they are ready for the next grade. After completing a demonstration class with their class teacher in front of an examiner, every candidate receives a certificate, medal and a progress report. This introduces them to the examination system without any pressure.
Primary Grade Ballet
Primary is the first examinable grade in the RAD syllabus. The new revised Primary grade was phased into classes from August 2009. It continues to develop musicality, imagination and expression through dance, mime, music, props and storytelling.
Grades 1 and 2 Ballet
These grades are ideal for beginners in Primary 5-7 or students who have progressed from Primary grade. They introduce and develop classical ballet technique. A 'Free Movement' section continues to encourage greater musicality and freedom of movement.
Children are also introduced to Character dancing as part of the syllabus which includes folk dance styles from across Europe which are often seen in traditional classical ballets.
