CSBS Choreography Competition 2016

What an amazing day at our 2016 Choreography Competition!

This year we welcomed 82 dancers from 6-16 years old to our competition in a new venue, Beancross Hotel Function suite. The dancers showcased a wide variety of solos, duets and group dances in ballet, pointe, character, jazz, tap and acrobatics which they had choreographed themselves with their own choice of music and costumes. In total there were 130 routines!!! We had lots of younger dancers trying the competition for the first time, and the older students helped look after them and cheer them on!

Guest judges and prizes

On our judging panel, we had, Ashleigh McGeorge (Stenhouse School of Dance), Katie Hunter (Larbert High School of Dance), and Carlie-anne Chuchla (Former CSBS / Dance artist). They were incredibly impressed by the high standard shown throughout the day, the enjoyment and performance across all the age groups.

After each genre, Mrs Jacqueline Clark, Director of Central Scotland Ballet School, presented the competitors with a certificate for each routine they had performed. In total, 195 certificates were presented! At the end of the day, the judges presented medals to their winners from each section; 12 second-place medals and 52 first-place medals, including duets and groups, were presented!

Trophy winners

The Millennium Trophy for the most outstanding performer of the day was awarded to Christiana Salaun (15) pictured above with the judging panel. The "Spirit of Dance Award" for musicality and performance was awarded to Violet Beattie (7).

You can view a complete list of the prizewinners here, and view a gallery of morning session photos (ballet and acro) or afternoon session photos (tap, jazz and hip-hop) on our CSBS Facebook page.

Many thanks to everyone who supported the event, including the students, parents, friends and staff who just came along to watch and cheer on their friends and family. Special thanks to: Ballet mum Claire Lawson for running the Tombola which raised £78 and to those who generously donated prizes; our judges who gave up their full Sunday; CSBS teacher Sammy for running the day and tallying the marks; CSBS teacher Amanda for organising the day including the programme and music and also designing the certificates and medals; CSBS teacher Paula for photographing the dancers; CSBS teacher Kiera for videoing for our archive; Mrs Clark for presenting the certificates.

We are really happy that everyone seemed to enjoy the experience and we are already looking forward to next year! We are very, very proud of the effort and performance given by every competitor and of the encouragement and support everyone showed to each other throughout the day - well done!
