Festive Nutcracker performance

Our Majors students performed a unique version of the classical ballet "The Nutcracker" at the Falkirk Festive Lights Switch On.

We had 29 Majors students perform in the event which was a narrated version of the story highlighting some of the well known music and dances from the popular Christmas ballet. The performance was part of the entertainment as part of the annual Falkirk Festive Light Switch On organised by Falkirk Delivers and we performed alongside other local groups and artists. The outdoor stage was situated by the famous Falkirk Steeple in the High Street and projected onto a giant video wall for the huge audience to see the whole event... the estimated audience was 13,500!!!

Our cast and choreography

The students performed the routines based on traditional classical choreography and were coached and rehearsed by CSBS teacher Sammy both during class time and 2 rehearsals together. Our beautiful costumes were from our own massive store but also from the collection of vintage costumes we received from the former Youth Ballet of Scotland. The students all learned the corps de ballet roles, but we were delighted to give them the opportunity to perform solos and small groups too:

  • Clara - Jill Russell
  • Sugar Plum Fairy - Ailey Meikle
  • Reed Flutes - Sarah Firth, Eve Hanson, Olivia Hunter, Katy Russell
  • Bon Bons - Hollie Crooks, Robyn Smillie, Robyn Whyte
  • Chinese (Tea) - Ailey Meikle, Ellie Stenton
  • Arabian (Coffee) - Anna Bremner, Hannah Firth, Chloe Murray
  • Spanish (Chocolate) - Sarah Firth, Ellen Guthrie, Olivia Hunter, Robyn Whyte
