Project Dance Summer School 2017

Seventy-one young dancers joined our 2017 Project Dance Summer School for 4 intensive days of dance training.

It was also lovely to have another 3 former CSBS students drop in for classes throughout course, including students who have now graduated from full-time training, and also welcome 5 students from other dance schools for the course.

The 4-day course was open to all dance students studying Grade 2-Advanced levels and included a packed timetable of 6 classes each day including: warm-up, ballet, repertoire, jazz, commercial and either contemporary or musical theatre. There is a fabulous record of each day  on our CSBS Facebook page - PLEASE go and have a look through each gallery of photos.

Learning from the best...

We were very fortunate to have an incredible faculty:

  • Sara-Maria Barton (Ballet and Repertoire) : Genée International Ballet Competition medallist, Sara-Maria, has had contracts with all of the major British ballet companies. She both trained and is now Assistant Artistic Director at Ballet West.
  • Kelly Marie Shields (Ballet and Repertoire) : Kelly trained and performed with Ballet West and was also a Geneé International Ballet Competition finallist. She now teaches at various schools across Scotland.
  • Senay Taormina (Jazz): Senay trained at Laine Theatre Arts and has worked in all areas of the dance industryacross the globe. She is now head of dance at the MGA Academy of Performing Arts.
  • Chloe Ferns (Commercial) : Chloe is a professional dancer and has performed across the UK on stage and screen.
  • Claire McAlister (Hip-hop) : A former CSBS student, Claire is the coach for our Starshine Cheer and Dance teams, and head of dance at Larbert High School of Dance.
  • Katie Hunter (hip-hop): Katie is a specialist dance teacher at Larbert High and has won awards for choreography. She taught alongside Claire on the course.
  • Dane William Bates (Contemporary) : Dance trained at London Studio Centre and is currently in huge demand as a tutor, choreographer and performer across the UK.
  • Amanda Clark (Musical Theatre) : CSBS teacher Amanda has a wealth of experience in performing and directing musical theatre.

On the final day of the course, parents were invited to watch an informal performance showcasing just a little of what the students had been learning. The course was mainly focussed on technique and mastering new steps but the students also had a number of short routines to share.

Certificates and awards

Every student was presented with a certificate on completion of the course and a souvenir t-shirt. Two 'Star Performer' awards were also presented to each group. The faculty chose 2 students who they thought had shown just a little extra hard work, determination, enthusiasm and talent over the course. They had an almost impossible task; all the participants had worked hard and progressed so much in each class... they wanted to award one to everyone! The awards were presented to:

  • Group 1 Star Performers - Abbie Garmany and Megan Richards
  • Group 2 Star Performers - Ellis Archibald and Ailish Ogilvie
  • Group 3 Star Performers - Olivia Hunter and Zoe Young
  • Group 4 Star Performers - Lucy Hutton and Sarah Leslie
  • An award was also presented to CSBS teacher Kristina Lowe, who joined Group 4, for being a positive role model throughout the course.

Many thanks to the Community Access staff at Grangemouth High School, and also to CSBS teachers Amanda and Sammy who managed the entire event. If you or your child took part, please complete our Project Dance 2017 feedback survey!
