Denny Dance Academy steps ahead...
Dance is part of daily school life in Denny High School as students have the chance to be part of their specialist Dance Academy.
Denny Dance Academy students study ballet, jazz and contemporary dance as part of their daily curriculum. The Academy operates in partnership with Jazz Art UK and Central Scotland Ballet School to provide the highest standard of training in jazz dance and classical ballet.
As well as school events, the students have taken part in workshops and performances across Scotland with a variety of professional dance companies. The Dance Academy also runs a series of Dance clubs to give every pupil a chance to dance.
Excellent reports
In February, HM Inspectors visited the school to carry out a routine inspection. The PE Department and it's Dance Academy was acclaimed for "innovative practice" and has been cited as a sector leader.
Following the report, the Dance Academy had a full day of filming and interviews with Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS). Head of Department, Anne McEwan and CSBS Director Amanda Clark were also interviewed for the feature which will highlight the work done by Denny High School and the benefits of the school working in partnership with external organisations.
Popular...
Now entering it's fourth year, the Dance Academy has become very popular. This year, over 100 P7 children auditioned for the 2011 intake... The Academy can only take 20 in each year group! Current students have gained their Int 1 and Int 2 level in Ballet and Jazz and many are preparing to sit their first RAD ballet assessments. Very few of the Dance Academy students have previous dance experience and some have enjoyed the lessons so much that they have started dance classes outwith school, some have even been accepted into our own Majors programme!
We are delighted to continue our support and partnership with Denny High and wish them all the best for their exams and show in June.
