Mainstage at Dance Show LIVE

CSBS students performed alongside dance celebrities on the mainstage at Dance Show Live...

Dance Show Live was Scotland's biggest ever dance show and exhibition and was held over two days at the SECC in Glasgow in conjunction with the UDO World Street Dance Championships. As well as exhibitors from across Scotland, there was a full programme of performances and workshops including famous acts such as Perri and Jordan from Diversity, Lukas MacFarlane, Mini Moves and Hash Tap.

Royal Academy of Dance

We were priviledged to have been asked to represent the Royal Academy of Dance at the event by performing some classical repertoire. Grade 5 student Adam Smith performed a Peasant solo from Giselle and Grade 6 student Lucy Hutton performed her award winning Genée Dance Challenge solo. A small group of Intermediate students also performed the Lilac Fairy and Silver Fairy variations with solo performances by Hayley Fleming.

The RAD were promoting the Genée International Ballet Competition which will see the world's top young students competing in Glasgow in September of this year and CSBS teachers Sammy and Amanda helped at the RAD stand. This is the first time the Genée has come to Scotland and we are VERY excited!

Cinderella

Toward the end of the day, the Majors students performed their short ballet adaptation of the fairytale, "Cinderella". They had worked very hard over 2 rehearsals to rechoreograph the piece with new principals and a considerably smaller cast. Many thanks to former students Hayley Fleming for stepping in to be the Fairy Godmother and Andrew Coleman for being the Prince, as well as Paige Lipski and Rosie Walker who stepped in to be part of the corps de ballet.

It was definitely something completely different for the audience and we had lots of positive feedback from RAD teachers, parents and friends... and even people who had never watched ballet before!

You can see a gallery of photos from the event on our Facebook page.
