YDance Destinations festival

Well done to the students who successfully auditioned to perform at YDance Destinations.

YDance Routes is a national dance programme that offers workshops, performances, training, networking events and support to inspire, develop and broaden the horizons of Scotland's young dancers - building to the 2014 Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival in Glasgow. 'Destinations' was a weekend of youth dance at Macrobert Arts Centre with 23 groups from across Scotland coming together to perform.

The groups were selected by video audition and we were delighted to be chosen to perform "Remember" which had been created for a Festival of Remembrance in 2013. The dancers spent the whole day at the theatre with a technical rehearsal, performance rehearsal, finale rehearsal, dress rehearsal, interviews and a contemporary dance workshop too!

Congratulations to our six dancers for an excellent performance:

  • Dayna Lipski, Anna McEwan, Emma McTeague,
  • Holly Morgan, Kiera Paterson, Nicola Thomson

Many thanks also to their parents for supporting them in the project and to CSBS teacher Amanda-Louise Clark who choregraphed the piece and arranged the music as well as spending the day with the group at the theatre. You can view a gallery of photos from our day in our Facebook album.

Youth Dance performances

Also performing in Destinations were CSBS students Jenna Davidson and Rachel Laird. Jenna was performing as part of Macrobert Youth Dance Company and Rachel performed as part of both Glasgow Youth Dance Company and the newly formed National Youth Dance Company of Scotland. Both girls have taken part in Project Y and other YDance projects. Well done girls!

Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival

The group performances were judged by a distinguished panel to choose just 8 to perform at the Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival in Glasgow in July. Unfortunately we were not selected but thoroughly enjoyed the experience!

The Festival will celebrate the best of youth dance from across the Commonwealth, take place over 3 days and nights - 10 to 12 July 2014 - and bring approximately 30 groups from Australia, Canada, England, India, Malta, Namibia, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales together - up to 400 young people and 30 youth dance leaders. There will be public performances by these groups at Glasgow's Tramway, offering local, national and international audiences the chance to see some of the best youth dance talent the Commonwealth has to offer. The participants will also take part in a jam-packed programme of workshops and creative sessions led by both national and international dance specialists. Keep up to date with the Festival on the YDance website!
