Big Commonwealth Dance
The Big Commonwealth Dance, "Beats for Peace", joined dancers across the world in a unique dance performance...
Internationally renowned choreographer, Raphael Bonachela, created the piece which was performed by dancers in Glasgow, London and Sydney and linked by live video feeds. It celebrated the end of the first ever Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival which was held in Glasgow and the end of Big Dance 2014.
Singing and dancing in the rain...!
CSBS teacher Amanda-Louise Clark was joined by 3 Senior students, Anna McEwan, Kiera Paterson and Taylor Young, at the Glasgow performance alongside 500 other dancers. We all got very, very wet as the rain became heavier and heavier. It didn't dampen our spirits though as we danced the routine a number of time for camera and film rehearsals before the final live link up with London and a very sunny Sydney, Australia! We chatted with host Christopher Hampson, Artistic Director of Scottiah Ballet, as well as organisers from Get Scotland Dancing, the Commonwealth Games Ceremonies team and YDance.
There is a small gallery of amazing photographs by Leask Photography on the CSBS Facebook page.
This major dance film commission linked dancers in Trafalgar Square, Glasgow City Centre and outside the Sydney Opera House which through live linkup connected three international cities -- London, Glasgow and Sydney and the film by Leopard Films shows how unique the experience was... Please watch and see if you can spot the CSBS dancers in Glasgow!
