Choreography Competition 2014
Our 2014 Choreography Competition was a great success with a huge number of students taking part.
We were delighted to welcome 56 competitors this year with many taking part for the first time. From the 5 to 17 year olds, they performed a variety of solos, duets and group dances onstage in ballet, pointe, character, jazz, tap and acrobatics which they had choreographed themselves with their own choice of music and costumes. There were 93 routines in total!
We were delighted to welcome as judges, Ashleigh McGeorge (Dance teacher at Stenhouse School of Dance) and Marie Buck (Freelance Dance Tutor, Torryburn Youth Dance). They both agreed that the overall standard was very high and were very impressed by the enthusiasm and technique shown in all the categories across all the age groups as well as some of the more imaginative ideas and beautiful costumes.
Medal winners and certificates
Mrs Clark, Director of Central Scotland Ballet School, presented the competitors with a certificate for each routine they had performed. In total, 126 certificates were presented! The judges then awarded 3 second-place medals and 50 first-place medals, including duets and groups.
Trophy winners
The Millennium Trophy for the most outstanding performer of the day was awarded jointly to Riona Clifford (11) and Zoe Young (11). Riona also won first place medals for both her ballet and jazz solos while Zoe won 2nd for jazz and first place medals for ballet duet, tap and acrobatics. Many thanks to everyone who supported the event, including the students, parents, friends and staff who just came along to watch. Thanks also to our judges who gave up their Sunday and the caretaker at GrangemouthTown Hall for being so helpful. We are really happy that everyone seemed to enjoy the experience and are already excited about next year!
