Lots of learning for our staff...

Our staff have had a very busy start to 2011...

As well as the usual timetabling issues, exam preparation, fees, exams and dance display rehearsals, they have been doing CPD in a number of subjects.

To continue to deliver a high quality of dance tuition to our students, our staff attend many courses throughout the year to learn new skills, revise syllabii and keep their skills and knowledge up-to-date. In the last month they have trained as follows:

  • Hip-Hop: Amanda and our student teacher Kristina attended a one-day hip-hop course in Glasgow with the ISTD, led by Ashleigh Cameron.
  • Tap: Amanda attended a revision course for the new grades 2 and 3 tap with the ISTD.
  • Contemporary/Creative: Amanda attended a teachers workshop with Rambert Dance Company.
  • Ballet: Sammy is in the final stages of the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies (CBTS) course which is the first part of a distance learning degree with the RAD. She is currently being assessed on the practical part of the course. She will be attending a week-long seminar.
  • Musical Theatre/Jazz: Amanda attended a dance workshop with "We Will Rock You"
  • Website: Amanda attended a 'Website Creation' course with Falkirk for Business.
New ballet and jazz syllabus

The Royal Academy of Dance are introducing a new syllabus for Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate levels in ballet. Mrs Clark and Sammy will be attending courses to learn the work during the Easter break. Amanda will be heading 'down South' during the summer to learn the new work, which looks like it will be challenging for both our students and teachers! Over the rest of the year, they will be attending RAD workshops and courses in Free Movement and Character, Choreography and Theatre.

The ISTD has introduced new amalgamations (dances) for Bronze and Silver Jazz Awards. Our staff will be attending courses to learn the new work in April as well as tap, modern and musical theatre courses over the rest of the year.

We are going to be VERY busy!
