Project Dance Summer School 2019

We had over 50 CSBS dancers come from across Scotland for our 2019 Project Dance Summer School.

We also welcomed 2 students from other dance schools for the course and had a number of former students come to watch the presentation on Day 4.

The 4-day course was open to all dance students studying Grade 2-Advanced levels and included a packed timetable of 6 classes daily including: warm-up/conditioning, ballet, repertoire, jazz, commercial, contemporary, lyrical, and musical theatre. Learning from the best...

We were again very fortunate to have an amazing team of guest tutors as our faculty:

  • Sara-Maria Barton and Kelly Marie Shields (Ballet and Repertoire) 
  • Dane Bates (Lyrical) 
  • Gavin Williams (Jazz) 
  • John Dempsey and Sarah Wilkie (Musical Theatre dance)
  • Rachel Laird (Contemporary)
  • Claire McAlister (warm up / contemporary) 
  • Katie Hunter (warm up / hip-hop)
  • Amanda-Louise Clark (Musical Theatre - Group 1) 

On the final day of the course, parents were invited to watch an informal presentation of work showcasing just a little of what the students had been learning. The course was mainly focussed on technique and mastering new steps but the students also had a number of short routines to share.

Certificates and awards

Every student was presented with a certificate on completion of the course and a souvenir t-shirt. Two 'Star Performer' awards were also presented to each group. The faculty chose 2 students who they thought had shown just a little extra hard work, determination, enthusiasm and talent over the course. They had an almost impossible task; all the participants had worked hard and progressed so much in each class and both the CSBS staff and Summer School faculty were very impressed. The awards (pictured below) were presented to:

  • Group 1 Star Performers - Lawrence Bremner and Jill Russell
  • Group 2 Star Performers - Abbie Garmany and Sarah Parker
  • Group 3 Star Performers - Anna Bremner and Ellie Stenton
