RAD Junior Ballet Awards

We were very proud to have 21 students accepted into the RAD Junior Awards Day...

The Junior Awards Day is for students studying RAD Grades 2-5 ballet and over 140 children took part this year. Each ballet class is judged and a winner chosen by the adjudicator.

Brilliant day

This year, the ballet class was led by RAD tutor Karen Berry and judged by Scottish Ballet soloist Eve Mutso. All of our students put a lot of effort into the lessons and their technique was very strong - we were very impressed! All the participants also got 3 'fun' classes - repertoire, jazz and 1940's jive. It seems that EVERYONE loved the 1940's best whwere they learned a traditional jive with a dancer from the Kennedy Cupcakes.

All the participants received a certificate from Eve Mutso and RAD Scottish Chairman, Yvonne Gray.

Trophy winner

A special congratulations must go to Serena McCall (9) who was awarded the trophy for the Grade 2 level. This trophy has been presented 5 times previously... And 3 of the previous winners were CSBS students too! Serena has also been accepted to study on the prestigious Scottish Ballet Junior Associates programme.

Genée fundraising

The event was staged as part of Scotland's fundraising for the Genée International Ballet Competition which is coming to Glasgo in September 2013. Parents, teachers and students had the chance to win a signed copy of Darcey Bussell's new book in a raffle, buy the 'Genée Uncovered' calendar, buy the new Genée t-shirts and bags AND buy some fabulous RAD and ballet cupcakes! What better way to spend a Sunday than dancing and eating cake?!?!

A small gallery of photos is available to view on our Facebook page or on the RAD Facebook page. Parents can view a full gallery of over 300 photos at Leask Photography using the password provided on the day.
