Winter Exam session 2018
We had fewer exam candidates than usual this session... but it was still a very busy week!
Over 4 full days, we had around 100 young dancers enter for ballet exams with the Royal Academy of Dance, and tap exams with the Imperial Society of teachers of Dance. The exams are recognised as being particularly demanding and challenging, and the students and their teachers had put in a lot of effort in preparation. We must give a special thank you to teacher Sammy who held exam preparation classes on Sundays for 5 weeks ahead of the exams so that the students could get as much extra coaching as possible.
RAD ballet exams
We had 3 little dancers sit their first graded exam, Primary Grade; they all came out smiling and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. At the other end of the scale, Senior dancer Zoe sat her Grade 6 ballet exam, while 5 dancers entered for their first Vocational level exam, Intermediate Foundation. Senior dancer Abby sat her Intermediate level. We also had 3 dancers enter for a Solo Peformance Award. The Maltese examiner was very friendly and put the students at ease in the examination studio.
The results are expected around 21 December and the closing date for entry in the Spring Session is 20 December!
ISTD Tap exams
We had a single full day of tap exams with mostly Primary Grade candidates. The children enjoyed their first exam experience even though they were a bit nervous in the room. The exmainer was from Barcelona and was lovely with the children to calm their nerves. We also had 3 Grade 1 candidates and only 1 Grade 4 candidate, Senior dancer Sarah. Joining us on the day were students from local Stenhouse School of Dance who had just a few candidates at Grade 3 and Bronze levels.
You can view a gallery of photos of all the exam candidates on our CSBS Facebook page
We are already preparing for our Spring session which is in March and will have around 7 full days of exams in ballet, tap and acrobatics!
