Bring a Boy to Ballet Success

We had a "Bring a Boy to Ballet" week as part of the Get Scotland Dancing initiative... And it was brilliant!

Get Scotland Dancing is a nationwide initiative by Creative Scotland and the Scottish Government with a wide range of dance events running throughout the year. The aim is simple... to get more people dancing and to improve the health of the nation.

Over our 'Boys week', students brought their brothers, friends, Dads and even Grandads, with an amazing total of 137 boys of all ages joining in ballet and jazz dance classes.

Boys in Ballet

The guys had to work really hard as ballet is not an easy option. They learned ballet basics including pliés, arm positions and tendus, then had to run faster, jump higher, turn quicker and balance longer than the girls AND even try and lift them! Everyone had great fun and really worked hard.

We also ran a series of news items entitled, "Boys in Ballet" which highlighted our male dance students and gave them a chance to tell everyone about their dance experience and why they think boys should give dance and ballet a try. Please take a few minutes to read and share them. Many thanks to:

  • Adam Smith - one of our Senior ballet students who helped out through the week
  • Andrew Coleman - a former student now at Northern Ballet School
  • Andrew Halliday - one of our Senior students heading to dance college
  • Duncan Anderson - a former student now graduating from Central School of Ballet
  • Paul Howard - a former student now at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland

You can view a gallery of photos from the week on our CSBS Facebook page... Lots of smiles! There were also more photos and boys dance related links posted on the dedicated event page.

Get involved...!

Thank you all for taking part. We have had so much fun this week and hope to see some boys returning to classes next week! Please head to the Get Scotland Dancing website to keep up to date with dance events across Scotland including free dance classes, performances and opportunities for all ages and all abilities, and to register for their newsletter. Happy dancing!
