RAD Senior Awards success
We were delighted by the success of CSBS students at the recent Royal Academy of Dance Senior Awards Day.
The Senior Awards Day is open to students currently studying the RAD vocational graded ballet syllabus from Intermediate Foundation to Advanced levels. Over 100 young dancers from across Scotland travelled to Dancebase in Edinburgh to participate in the day. They enjoyed workshops in ballet, jazz, jive and repertoire with guest tutors from across the UK.
We were very proud of the effort and enthusiasm shown by our students throughout the day. Taking part at each level were:
- INTER FOUNDATION: Zoe Young
- INTERMEDIATE 1: Sarah Leslie; Serena McCall; Christiana Salaun
- INTERMEDIATE 2: Caitlin Carmichael; Riona Clifford; Katy Russell; Eilidh Ryan; Seana Scott; Adam Smith
- ADVANCED: --
Ballet class award winners
Parents and teachers were invited to watch the ballet classes which were led by former Royal Ballet dancer, Leanne Macrae. Eve Mutso, Principal dancer with Scottish Ballet, judged each ballet class to pick out the student she thought excelled in the lesson. The standard was very high - Mrs Clark watched each class and was very impressed by the performances of all our competitors.
We were delighted to have Serena McCall announced as the winner of the Intermediate 1 level class followed by Katy Russell announced as winner for the Intermediate 2 level class! Both girls were presented with trophies by Ms Mutso. The excitement continued as Serena was then announced as the overall winner for the whole day and received £200 as a prize!
Serena was both the Grade 4 winner and overall winner at the 2014 RAD Junior Awards and this was her first year competing at Senior level. (Read more about the 2014 Junior Awards). Katy has previously been awarded the Caroline Newlands Memorial Award for musicality and performance at her first Awards Day in 2011 (read more about the 2011 Awards)
