Serena heads South for "Moving North"

CSBS dancer Serena travelled to York to compete in a heat of the RAD 'Moving North' dance competition.

'Moving North' is a new choreographic and performance competition, based in Northern England, for young dancers aged 8–18. Soloists, pairs and groups competed in ballet, jazz, contemporary, and hip hop categories with over 400 dancers taking part over the 3 Northern England heats.

The York heat had 52 acts competing and involved 144 young dancers from across the UK. Serena (who had just celebrated her 12th birthday the day before the competition!) performed a dramatic lyrical solo entitled "Secrets" in the Contemporary category. She received great applause and cheering from the audience, and CSBS teacher Amanda was delighted to receive great feedback from the other RAD teachers there. Unfortunately, she was not selected as one of the ten finalists to compete in the Finals but definitely gave an outstanding performance. You can see a few photos below courtesy of Leask Photography.

Amanda was at the competition as assistant photographer with Leask Photography and took photos of the competitors in their warm up class and behind the scenes. Also competing from Scotland was Rhona Miller from our Braes branch who was performing her own contemporary choreography which she had worked on at school, and a small group from 'Angela Watson School of Dance' in Edinburgh performing a group classical ballet routine.
