Project Dance Summer School 2016
We were delighted to welcome 66 young dancers to our 2016 Summer School...
It was also lovely to have another 10 former CSBS students drop in for classes throughout course, including students who are now training full-time in dance and some who have now graduated.
The 4-day course was open to all dance students studying Grade 2-Advanced levels and included a packed timetable of 6 classes each day including: warm-up, ballet, repertoire, jazz, commercial and either contemporary or musical theatre. There is a fabulous record of each day on our CSBS Facebook page - please go and have a look through each gallery of photos.

Learning from the best...
We were very fortunate to have an incredible faculty for the course:
- Sara-Maria Barton (Ballet and Repertoire) : Genée International Ballet Competition medallist, Sara-Maria, has had contracts with all of the major British ballet companies. She both trained and is now Artistic Director at Ballet West.
- Kelly Marie McCole (Ballet and Repertoire) : Kelly trained and performed with Ballet West and was also a Geneé International Ballet Competition finallist. She now teaches at the MGA Academy of Performing Arts.
- Senay Taormina (Jazz): Senay trained at Laine Theatre Arts and has worked in all areas of the dance industryacross the globe. She is now head of dance at the MGA Academy of Performing Arts.
- Jo Richards (Commercial) : Jo is a professional dancer, teacher, and personal trainer. She has performed and taught across the UK.
- Claire McAlister (Hip-hop) : A former CSBS student, Claire is the coach for our Starshine Cheer and Dance teams, and head of dance at Larbert High School of Dance.
- Dane William Bates (Contemporary) : Dance trained at London Studio Centre and is currently in huge demand as a tutor, choreographer and performer across the UK.
- Heather Gourdie (Musical Theatre) : Former CSBS student Heather is an award winning musician and has trained at the RCS Junior Conservatoire. She has extensive performing experience and is beginning her full time training later this year. Heather taught alongside CSBS teacher Amanda who has a wealth of experience in performing and directing.
On the final day of the course, parents were invited to watch an informal performance showcasing just a little of what the students had been learning. The course was mainly focussed on technique and mastering new steps but did include learning short routines.
Certificates and awards
Every student was presented with a certificate on completion of the course and a souvenir t-shirt. Two 'Star Performer' awards were also presented to each group. The faculty chose 2 students who they thought had shown just a little extra hard work, determination, enthusiasm and talent over the course. They had an almost impossible task; all the participants had worked hard and progressed so much in each class... they wanted to award one to everyone! The awards were presented to:
- Group 1 Star Performers - Lucy Anderson and Ailish Ogilvie
- Group 2 Star Performers - Sarah Firth and Anya Phillips
- Group 3 Star Performers - Laura McTeague and Seana Scott
- Group 4 Star Performers - Lucy Hutton and Serena McCall
Many thanks to the Community Access staff at Grangemouth High School, and also to CSBS teachers Amanda and Sammy who managed the entire event. If you or your child took part, please complete our Project Dance feedback survey!
