Dancers train at CYD Superconvention

Our Starshine Elite dance team enjoyed a fantastic weekend at the CYD? Superconvention in Liverpool.

The 2017/18 teams had qualified for the finals of the 'Can You Dance?' competition earlier this year and took to the stage alongside teams from across the UK. The Junior team performed "Alive", while the Seniors performed "Winters War".

During the 2-day convention, they also had the amazing opportunity to take part in a wide range of dance masterclasses alongside dancers from across the UK and tried workshops in ballet, jazz and acro technique, contemporary and commercial workshops, and celebrity tutor workshops. There were also a wide range of stands and information outlets showcasing dancewear, dance aids, and dance colleges.

During the workshops, industry professionals selected dancers to receive awards and prizes. Special congratulations to:

  • Sarah Firth: "She Shines On" Global Dance Tours award for the chance to win a scholarship to LA
  • Iana Phillips: Invitation to join Performers College Associate Scheme (London) / Scholarship to the CYD Intensive / 2 class awards
  • Ellie Stenton: Invitation to join Performers College Associate Scheme (London)

Some of our other dancers also attended the weekend. Robyn Whyte still attends our classes for ballet, although she is now training full-time at dance college in Edinburgh. She was at the convention as an ambassador for Dream Beams and Bars Ltd. She also caught the attention of tutors and was awarded a scholarship to the CYD Intensive and class awards. Charley-Anne Allan is also a ballet student with CSBS but also trains at Larbert High School and Dancepoint; she was also picked out in workshops and received a scholarship to the CYD Intensives and class awards.

All our dancers also got the chance to meet up with and dance with former CSBS students Anya Phillips and Serena McCall who were taking part in the weekend as class assistants and Serena was also representing Bloch dancewear. Both girls are now in full-time training.

You can see a very small gallery of photos on the CSBS Starshine Facebook page. Well done everyone!
