Dance Dads fundraising success

We were delighted to host a unique Macmillan Coffee Morning... It included a Dance Dads workshop!

Twenty-three keen Dads came along with their little dancers to learn all about their child's hobby. As well as enjoying a cuppa and cake and raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support, they had an educational morning with CSBS teacher Amanda. The 'lesson' began with an introduction to Central Scotland Ballet School and some information about our classes before learning about the ballet uniform for each grade, how to fit dance shoes, a look at a real tutu, and even getting to see and try on pointe shoes.

The main part of the lesson was teaching the dads how to master hairstyles for the girls (the boys hair was super easy!)... They all tried out ponytails before trying their skills at pleating. It was lots of fun, but still needs some practise! After all the hair styling, everyone had the chance to learn some ballet basics and see how much strength, control, coordination and energy ballet requires. We also got to watch a video of a professional dancer just to see what it all should have looked like. To recover from the lesson, we all finished with more coffee and cake.

Fundraising total

The morning raised a grand total of £180 for Macmillan Cancer Support. The charity offers support in a wide variety of way to everyone affected by cancer, including a patients family and friends. You can read more about the charity on their website.

• Alison Shaw from the Club who was extremely helpful and supportive throughout the day;

• Mr and Mrs Clark donated cakes and came to help out on the day;
• Dance mum Fiona, teacher Sammy, and little dancers Erin and Ciara also donated cakes;

and finally HUGE thanks to teacher Amanda who organised the event, created all the promotional and presentation materials, decorated the hall, donated cakes, and hosted the day. Great work!

We had a lots of cakes left over after the event, so the following morning Amanda made some special deliveries, taking a selection of tasty treats for the staff and residents at Haining Care Home, the staff and the elderely visitors at the Ion Enablement Centre, and also for the farm staff and team of volunteers at Newparks Farm in Muiravonside Country Park.
