Choreography Competition 2015

Our 2015 Choreography Competition was a great success with a record number of dancers taking part!

We welcomed 102 students aged from 6-17 and 4 adult competitors this year with almost 40 dancers taking part for the first time. They performed a variety of solos, duets and group dances onstage in ballet, pointe, character, jazz, tap and acrobatics which they had choreographed themselves with their own choice of music and costumes. There were 146 routines in total!

On our judging panel, we had, Ashleigh McGeorge (Dance teacher at Stenhouse School of Dance), Louise Finlay (Lou's Tappers / Waterfront Studios), and Beth Donnelly (Former CSBS / Dance artist). They all agreed that the overall standard was very high and were very impressed by the enthusiasm and technique shown in all the categories across all the age groups as well as some of the more imaginative ideas and beautiful costumes.

Medal winners and certificates

Mrs Clark, Director of Central Scotland Ballet School, presented the competitors with a certificate for each routine they had performed. In total, 211 certificates were presented! The judges then awarded 8 second-place medals and 54 first-place medals, including duets and groups. The Adult competiors had been sponsored to take part as a challenge and each received a small trophy.

Trophy winners

The Millennium Trophy for the most outstanding performer of the day was awarded jointly to Riona Clifford (12) and Sarah Leslie (13). Riona also won first place medals for both her ballet and pointe solos while Sarah won 2nd for jazz and first place medals for jazz duet, ballet and pointe.

The "Spirit of Dance Award" for musicality and performance was awarded jointly to April Beattie (9) and Katy Russell (12). The judges (and the CSBS staff!) were impressed by the enthusiasm and sense of performance shown by all the competitors throughout the day.
