Lucy and Iana compete on World stage

Young CSBS dancers Iana and Lucy represented Team Scotland at the 2017 Dance World Cup in Germany!

Iana Phillips (11) and Lucy Anderson (11) joined Team Scotland competing alongside around 4000 dancers from another 36 countries! Iana was selected as a Team Mascot for Scotland and lead the team through the streets of Offenburg in the opening ceremony. Back at home, we kept up to date with all the news and performances over the full week on a Live Stream and through social media with regular updates on a special event page where you can still view video clips and photos. (Visit the event page here) Unfortunately due to holidays, we weren't able to keep up with all the Team Scotland routines but they were brilliant !

Contemporary and Jazz

Early on the the first and second days of competition, the pair competed with duets in both the Contemporary and the Jazz sections, which both had around 40 entries. The standard was very high and we were very proud of their performances. The routines were choreographed by our Starshine coach Claire McAlister and both girls are members of our Starshine Junior Elite dance team.

Ballet

The ballet sections were really tough and the standard was extremely high. As well as competing with a duet, both girls competed in the solo sections. Iana performed a variation from 'Kitri'; Iana currently studies Grade 3 ballet and is also an associate with Scottish Ballet and Ballet West. Lucy performed a variation from 'La Fille Mal Gardee'; she also studies Grade 3 ballet and is has just started in our Majors ballet programme. They didn't place on the medals table but danced beautifully and their audience at home was delighted!

You can see view a small gallery of the girls at the event on our CSBS Facebook page.

Many thanks to everyone who supported the girls in their fundraising to take part in the competition. It has been a wonderful experience!
