Choreography Competition 2017

We had an AMAZING day at our 2017 Choreography Competition!

Seventy-six dancers from 3-17 years old showcased a wide variety of solos, duets and group dances in ballet, pointe, jazz, tap and acrobatics. They had each choreographed themselves with their own choice of music and costumes. In total there were 115 routines!!! We had lots of younger dancers trying the competition for the first time, and the older students helped look after them and cheer them on!

Little Stars section

A highlight of this year's competition was the new 'Little Stars' section. Five dancers aged under 6 performed a demonstration routine for the judges and the audience... They were superb! After their performances, they were each presented with a certiicate and medal by Bill Mcdonald, chairman of the Falkirk District Arts and Civic Council. (pictured below)

Guest judges and prizes

On our judging panel, we had, Ashleigh McGeorge (Stenhouse School of Dance), and Kelly-Marie Shields (Dollar Dance). Also judging the acro section was specialist judge, Diane Dagger from CSBSThey were impressed by the high standard shown throughout the day, the enjoyment and performance across all the age groups. they also commented on how fun and friendly the day was.

After each genre, Mrs Jacqueline Clark, Director of Central Scotland Ballet School, presented the competitors with a certificate for each routine they had performed. In total, 167 certificates were presented! At the end of the day, the judges presented medals to their winners from each section; 18 second-place medals, 54 first-place medals, including duets and groups, and 5 little stars medals were presented! Many thanks to Falkirk district Arts and Civic Council for sponsoring our medals and certificates this year as part of the annual Tryst Festival.

The Millennium Trophy for the most outstanding performer of the day was awarded to Sarah Firth (14) pictured above with the judging panel. Sarah won 2 gold medals and a silver medal for her jazz and acrobatics routines.
